Hello, People.
Selfie sticks weren’t a thing in my Great-grandpa Franz Georg Leopold Lessiack’s day, and I have no idea who was on the shooting end of the camera in this case. Maybe it was Leo’s new girlfriend — a sweet young thing named Margaret — or maybe it was Emma or Bruno, his sister and brother-in-law. Whatever the case, I can’t help but think that all these picture were taken with the intention of sending them home to Great-great-grandmother Henriette Catharina Maria Puhlmann Lessiack back in Hamburg.
I don’t know the location of the town pictures. The paper he’s holding and the flag behind him seem to have special significance, but the paper is so blown out that I can’t get any detail from it, even with a loupe. We shall have to wonder. Doesn’t Leo look dapper in his straw boater hat?
The country picture is labeled “Franklin’s Cove, 9/30/16” on the back.
Leo was about 27 years old when these photos were taken, just about the right age to think about settling down with a nice girl. More on that soon.
Happy Saturday, People.
Such cool photos! I do love the hat. I look forward to the next chapter in Leo’s story.

Great pictures! Even in the days before selfies, people enjoyed posing for the camera. I’m looking forward to hearing more of his story.
