Today is my one-year blogoversary here at The People of Pancho, one year since I looked at all the boxes of paper and photographs I dragged home from my grandma’s house and wondered, “What the heck am I going to do with all this stuff?”
There is a right way and wrong way to handle archival materials, People, and while I do my best, I’m sure that one look at my setup would give a real archivist the vapors.
Nevertheless, it’s been a wonderful blogging year for me. I’ve made a treasured connection with a heretofore unknown relative, and I’ve met so many other obsessive nuts — I mean, fantastic genealogy bloggers — who are on similar quests. We cheer each other along when the scanning gets tough and the clues dry up, and for that, I am truly grateful. You guys are terrific.
While I am not normally in the habit of putting nude photos of myself in bed on the internet, I will make an exception in this case, because my Grandma Kathi was the “keeper of the stuff” before me, and she is the person to whom I owe a debt of gratitude for leaving me so many clues to sift through and write about.
By the way, the mystery that prompted me to begin blogging in the first place is still not solved. Yes it is! See https://peopleofpancho.com/2020/08/24/pancho-is-back-and-a-mystery-is-solved/. I have come to regard Dorrie as a kind of muse in uniform.
One more thing. Today is also the birthday of my dear cousin Jenny, fellow member of the snappy dressers club. Here we are with our great-grandpa Leo. Happy birthday, Jen!
Thanks for reading, People.
Happy Blogiversary! I didn’t realize you and I started within just a couple of months of each other. I figured you were an “old pro’! Thanks for sharing your journey with me and all the other happy obsessives!

Reading in bed is my happy place also. You are remarkable Panchie! Papon is puttering and stuttering with pride. Keep up the good work.
I think Dorrie must have been killed in the war. I don’t believe Papon would have let her go otherwise. Perhaps, this was among the reasons he could not speak of the war. He was a very romantic and loving man! Mama Kathi swept him off his feet!! She was gorgeous and very wise.
Love you,
Argie

Amy, that was my theory for a very long time. However, I’ve looked extensively at casualty lists for Navy Nurse Corps during the period when Dorrie would have been enlisted and no one seems to match. Dunno. It’s definitely a mystery. Hard to imagine anyone dumping someone as perfect as Papa Bob, right? I do believe you’re right about Grandma Kathi sweeping him off his feet, though. They had a very short courtship and a long happy marriage, and she was the one person who said “Go for it!” when Richard and I decided to get married after a relatively short time dating. True love “gets” true love, you know?

Oh Happy Happy Congrats! These little landmarks are so fun. Especially when you think about all the ones you’ve see come along and then are gone or dwindled away… Blogging is such a great way to learn about writing and to keep a small measure of sanity…most days 🙂

Indeed. The discipline is very good for me–without a blog to maintain, i suspect that i would have many good intentions but not many finished pieces. Thanks for going on the journey with me.
