Happy Birthday, Aunt Fran

Today is the birthday of my dear Aunt Fran, the younger sister of my stepdad, and a fellow lover and collector of family stories and pictures.

Here’s one that she shared with me just the other day. Fran is the cutie pie in front wearing la pollera montuna, a traditional costume native to Panama. Someday I will do an entire post dedicated to female members of the family wearing la pollera — due to our long Panama Canal Zone heritage, no girl could get away without at least one pollera picture, and some of us (ahem) were not all that cooperative about it  — but today is all about Aunt Fran.

Happy Birthday, Aunt Fran. You deserve a parade.

While many of us, sadly me included, keep most of our photographs in boxes and envelopes, Fran turns them into the most artistic photo albums I’ve ever seen. I think the art is called “scrapbooking”, but Fran has turned it into something even greater than what one envisions with the word “scrapbook”. Hers are pure art — she’s already thinking of a future scrapbook when she snaps her photos! Happy Birthday, dear, dear Fran. Love you so dearly — Sue
